Giving The Linux Certification ExamLinux is a computer operating system that has become popular in the last two decades. Gradually, it has been upgraded with many new versions over the last few years. Major software companies have given it their support. Linux is used with a variety of computer hardwares. The Linux operating system needs a professional certification which is commonly termed as Linux certification. The certification is provided by IT vendors and other organizations. There is no single entity that provides Linux certification as present day Linux is a collaborative effort of many individuals and organizations. Any individual institute does not have the authority to provide Linux certification. In order to provide IT professionals expertise in Linux operating systems, many corporations offer their own certification. Some institutes which do that are Red Hat, Novell, Linux Professional Institute and SAIR. Currently, there are three well established Linux certification programs and a number of less established ones. Linux certification exams are computer-administered exams. They are administered through the Thompson Prometric and/or Pearson VUE testing networks. Both are international networks which can conduct the certification exam across the world. An interested candidate is supposed to present two forms of identification, one on the day of the test and another at the center. Nothing is allowed along with the candidate in that room. A social security number is provided and the candidate is made to enter that in the computer to sign in for the exam. An agreement needs to be signed in which one will promise that he/she will not reveal the contents of the exam. Most exams last for almost two hours and have questions in the form of multiple choice. Generally, people scoring 65-70% pass the exam. Red Hat certification exams are held at its own authorized facilities only. These authorized centers are in 23 cities in the US and Canada. Red Hat certification exams are more tedious ones. They may require even a full day. The Linux certification exam includes a written exam, a network services configuration lab and a troubleshooting lab. There are many practice papers available online for those who want to prepare for Linux certification exams. Depending upon the choice of course of certification by the candidate and the candidate's experience level, the time span for the certification course may differ. However, it has been observed that more time is expended in preparing for the certification exam. Advanced and complex certifications require more than one exam, but they might prove beneficial in the long run. Self study is the basic thing to do for getting a Linux certification. |
